Why Women should Train With Weights

Women typically tend to avoid weight training.  This is because women worry they will bulk up if they do weight training.  Unsurprisingly, not wanting to look like men, most women avoid weight training.

These women fail to realize that using weights can actually be a great way to lose weight, tone up and improve overall health.  Further, they can be sure that no weight can cause them to bulk up like men due to two reasons.

1.      Being built differently, their body structure will not permit them to bulk up like men.

2.      Testosterone is a vital hormone for muscle growth and is present in both men and women, although women produce a significantly smaller amount when compared to men.

So,irrespective of the extent to which a woman works out she will not resemble a man.

More good news is that weight training offers many benefits to women in particular, such as improved flexibility, better weight loss results, improved strength, and an increase in energy.

As weight training when combined with a cardio routine increases weight loss, it is often used by women. The reason for this is that muscle burns more calories, so building muscle through weight training will therefore burn more fat.

It must be noted that fat from only certain spots cannot be reduced in isolation.  What this means, is that you cannot choose where you will lose body fat.  Hence, you may as well do away with the idea that you can obtain a perfect set of abs by merely doing a 100 crunches a day.

Rather than focus on specific areas of your body, your weight training exercises should be focused on your whole body.  Depending on your individual body structure, the first location of fat loss will vary.

Initiating and adhering to a program that combines weight training with cardio and a balanced diet will cause your body fat to disappear and allow you to notice the enhanced look of your muscles.

As is the case with men, the initial weights you lift must not be beyond your reasonable lifting abilities.  Starting off lighter and working your way up is always recommended.

Working each muscle group thrice a week, in combinations of two or three groups per session is the most efficient way to work your entire body every week.

By doing supersets you can ensure the best and effective work out of your body.

A superset consists of a combination of two weight training exercises which are focused on different muscle groups.   First you perform one exercise and then alternate it with the other, repeating this twice or thrice during the workout session.

It is important that each exercise is performed correctly, in order to avoid injury.

Just like with men, your exercise routine should be accompanied by a diet that enhances muscle growth.

Eating protein rich foods, fruits, vegetables and drinking lots of water will cause you to start seeing results more quickly.

As women are realizing the benefits and effectiveness of weight training, it is rapidly becoming more popular with them.  Due to the rapid increase in number of people who are obese and overweight, weight training is becoming increasingly popular amongst women in their weight loss programs.
